How to Make Money Recycling Scrap Metal Part II
Since my earlier article on making money from scrap metal has proven to be so popular, perhaps it behooves me to expand upon it. There is much more than the obvious to this business and I will explain the details. With the prices of all metals today (2006) literally anything made of metal is worth something in the scrap metal market. Just a couple of years ago tin was as worthless as cardboard but now it is worth collecting it and cashing it in. What’s more it is common to find and heavy so it doesn’t take much to make 1,000 pounds of it. Another name for tin is “light steel” since most of it is sheet steel with some having a plating or coating of tin. Annually in the United States over 140 million tons of steel is recycled annually so you are not alone by any means. Most people turn their noses up at air conditioners and lawn mowers which are found at curbside constantly. What few realize is that air conditioners (and dehumidifiers) contain condensers which are made of aluminum and copper which are worth something. These days it gets anywhere from 40 cents to 55 cents per pound. It is also called, “Copper and Aluminum Radiators” which includes the copper tubing with aluminum...

How Clean Is The Air You Are Breathing?
How safe is the air that you breath at work, home and in your vehicle or even where you shop? Did you know that many of the products we use in our homes, at school, or in the office can contain or release chemicals into the air. In fact, many cleaners, paints, and other such products have a warning on the container, warning users that the product should only be used in well-ventilated areas. Please always make sure to read the label of the cleaners, paints, and other similar products prior to using and always follow the manufacturer's instructions. To help improve air quality, look for the following on the labels of the products you purchase: Use products that do not contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or that contain very low amounts of these compounds. Avoid using aerosol products or equipment such as paint sprayers whenever possible. Look for and use water based products, such as water-based paints. Ensure all products containing VOCs are stored safely in your home in airtight containers. I have asthma and allergies and I have to be very careful to keep the air in my home as clean as possible. The damp winter that we had this winter has caused some...
I love free things, bargains too.
Have you ever used Freecycle? It is a Yahoo group and they are all over the country. People who have things they want to get rid of post them on the newsgroup and people who want the items email the person getting rid of it. If it is a good match, the item is picked up by the person who wants it. All for free. And people who want an item post their want on the newsgroup and people who have that item and want to get rid if it email them to arrange pick-up of the item.I've gotten rid of all kinds of things I didn't want any more. It is amazing what some people want. I've given away egg cartons, cd's that come in the mail[like aol trial disks], plastic grocery bags, aluminum cans, empty inkjet cartridges, even two non-working dehumidifiers! It is great when you are cleaning out the basement or the garage. Last week I gave away thirty-some 3.5 inch floppy disks. None of our machines use them anymore.Sometimes there are things wanted by teachers or crafters that would otherwise just be thrown away. I hate to throw anything away if someone can use it. But I also hate to have stuff accumulate forever in my house. So Freecycle is a perfect match for me.I've gotten free...
How to protect your home
From a Flood! Floods happen - beside rivers, on the coast, in deserts, along city streets and behind protective levees. But you can take steps before the flood to protect your home and family from disaster. Some things can and should be done immediately. Others require a licensed professional. However, each change you make will increase your home’s resistance to flood damage. When there is risk of flood: Clear drains, gutters and downspouts of debris and make sure your yard’s grading (slope) directs water away from the building. Anchor fuel tanks. An unanchored tank can be torn free by floodwaters, and the broken supply line can cause contamination, or if outdoors, can be swept downstream and damage other homes. Buy and install sump pumps with backup power where needed. Regularly check to make sure they are working. Cut off electrical service at the main breaker if the electrical system and outlets will be under water. If you have time to hire a licensed electrician: Raise electric components (switches, sockets, circuit breakers and wiring) at least 12” above the projected flood elevation. Place all appliances, including furnace, water heater, washer and dryer on masonry...
Poisens in your home
I recieve information daily from my upline because my biz is a green company. I just want to pass this on. It may help you all.The CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) reports that houses today are so energy efficient that "out-gassing" of chemicals has no where to go, so it builds up inside the home. We spend 90% of our time indoors, and 65% of that time at home. Moms, infants and the elderly spend 90% of their time in the home. Our homes should have a complete change of air 3 or 4 times a day. We should leave our windows open on each side of our house for better cross ventilation. New homes are built so airtight that it is impossible to get a complete change of air.In Alberta last year accidental poisoning statistics were as follows: Between the ages of:* 0 - 4 years - 11, 515 poisonings* 5 - 10 years - 1,524* 11 - 19 years 1,019* 20 and over 7,799The top three culprits according to Poison Control: household cleaners, bleach, and medications. In the USA the #1 cause of accidental poisoning is Dawn Dishwashing Detergent (c). WHY? Because it is the #1 seller. Tide contains Lye and is the #1 polluter. It is also the...
