| | Solar Power~~~Cheap?? | | Photovoltaic, or solar-electric, systems capture light energy from the sun's rays and convert it into electricity. Today these solar units power everything from small homes to large office buildings. In the 1980s the average price of energy captured with photo voltaics was 95 U.S. cents per kilowatt-hour. Today that price has dropped to around 20 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to American Solar Energy Society. But the cheaper rate is still more expensive than the average national price of electricity, which in 2003 was a little over 8 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Other recent advances include "thin film" photovoltaic technology; a high-tech coating that converts any surface covered with the film into a solar-electric power source. Boats and RVs that use the film are now on the market. The Indian Railways has set up solar panels on the roof of most of the railway stations.
Engineers have also developed a roofing material coated with the electricity-producing film. Somebody who puts this on the roof of a house also thus puts on the solar panels at the same time. | | Why Oh Why did I watch the NEWS????? | | Livng where we do is so isolated from tne rest of the world. We are pretty much self sufficient here since we made many changes over the years to run our ranch in the most enviromentally efficient way. Solar power, wind power, wood stoves,organic meats and produce, experimenting with bio diesel etc. We could live here completely oblivious to the world around us. Surrounded by nature with not a care in the world.And then I turned on the news! I cried. A dumptruck full of exposives goes off in a crowded market place in the middle east maiming and killing. Leveling buildings. How many innocents have been killed this time?Tornados ravage Florida leaving many homeless and searching for loved ones.Another out break of Avian in turkeys in Great Britan. How are we to contain this viruse should it mutate and spread to the general populace. There has been a concern over this now for years. This pandemic could virtually desimate the worlds population. Why Oh Why did I watch the news? It brought the world into my bubble and I am not feeling as safe anymore! | |
