| More strange weather | | Sunday we barbequed, the weather was great, low 80s, sunny, summer was here. We got out the patio furniture and the kids pool. Today it is windy, cold, high of 60 degrees, snow flurries in parts of the valley. My poor plants can't figure out what to do, one day they are putting out buds and new leaves, the next their frostbit. How's the weather where you are? | |
| | Disaster at the community pool | | We spent the day at the community pool yesterday. It was a beautiful day...the wife was off work, the kids were frolicking in the cool waters, and I was sleeping off a Memorial Day BBQ hangover....the serenity was shattered though by a number of screams and people fleeing from the pool as they were being chased by an unwrapped snickers bar (imagine what that looks like and you'll understand what was actually happening)....of course now the pool has to be contaminated and is closed for 2 days...this happens every year which is why I think the kids should be kept in the kids pool and out of the adult pool...anyone else ever had this happen to them? | |
| | Rain Rain Rain!!! | | Ok so we need it, I understand that! But since I woke up it has been raining... it must have been raining for a long time before I woke up because I had tons of water when I woke. It has been this constant rain... not real heavy but not light at all. I actually had to tip over the kids pool because it was getting too much in it. I had to move my potted plants because of the same thing. But here in the south we need it. there are too many fires and not enough rain! I guess to look at the bright side of it all... at least I do not have to water the grass today. I have spent way too much on water:) If it raining by you what on earth do you do all day??? I am so stinking bored! | |
| | bugs!!!!! | | I have a 6 foot kids pool in the yard. I was cleaning it out and that spot where the pool was smelt like horseyuck! The bugs came in sworms. How do you deal with them? HELP! | |
| | Is it safe to fill our kids pool with water from the garden hose? | | Have you ever asked yourself this? Yes it is safe, but take a few precautions since kids often drink some pool water. Many hoses are made of polyvinyll chloride (PVC), a material that contains lead, which can leach into the water. "Lead exposure can cause subtle but permanent effects on the brain, so it's best to minimize it wherever you can." Because water that's been standing in the hose has higher lead levels, run the hose for a minute or two before filling the pool to flush away most of the lead. discourage your kids from drinking pool water, and never let them slurp straight from the hose. If your buying a new hose, look for one labeled "safe for drinking" (you should still let it run for awhile first, since water pipes can also contain lead). | |
| | I created my first "raised" Garden.... I did It! I need your input Gardeners! | | I have always been fond of plants and getting them what they need to flourish. I have been doing so good with the indoor stuff that I kept wondering about the outsideW stuff. I have a patient whose daughter gardens. She also does a compost pile as well. I am NOT fond of worms of any kind. YUK! I am trying to get over the fear of worms but its not going to be easy. She definitely has a green thumb. As I watched her I began to really become interested in the whole idea of gardening. So I talked to my fiance and he told me to go for it. Only problem is that I live in an apartment(rented) and the yard is a cement driveway. As I was researching how to go about gardening without a yard, I was told to get bins or I could create a wooden flower box. I didnt think buying the lumber and other supplies was a good idea. What if I didnt like it or everything died? I didnt want to be out of pocket tons of cash. I really dont have it like that. A friend suggested that I get a small, plastic, kids pool. I decided to try it.My husband, myself, and my neighbor went to the nursery and picked out some veggies and flowers to plant. I chose, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and several beautifull flowers.... | |
